PILBARA ABORIGINAL CHURCH
For the sixth consecutive year Melville City Church was privileged to send a team to bless the Pilbara Aboriginal Church in Roebourne. 2013 was the biggest infrastructure job yet and as they went later than normal (August/September) it was getting very hot!
With some local help, the team of eight menMichael A (AESWA), Chas, Henry, Graeme L, Robin, Chris and Graham Mlaid 45 tonnes of ochre-coloured concrete over the old damaged floor to lift it above flood level. This was a BIG job.
Preparation took four days and involved fixing a galvanised flashing to the perimeter, levelling the old floor with sand, covering with plastic sheeting, and laying reinforcing mesh. Then the trucks and concrete pump arrived and it was all happening!
Michael Auriemma’s wide experience in most trades across the building industryand his wide skill setbrought us through this huge challenge successfully! Aurel made an aluminium ramp for the front entrance and assisted in other ways to produce a result which delighted the team and the local congregation.
The team members were able to spend time with some of the congregation and visitors to the area while also squeezing in a few other smaller electrical, painting and plumbing jobs and listening to Henry’s stories.
Planning is well underway for a team to visit again in July 2014. Pease see Robin if it is on your heart to visit the Pilbara in the future.
